There are many reasons why mid-sized businesses hire IT contractors:
- When a project needs an expert in a particular field, IT contractors may be more suitable- IT contractors can get up and running quickly and 'kick start' projects- If a company is not satisfied with their work, they can be dismissed immediately - When a project requires a short term resource and there is not enough work to justify a full time position- When the requirement is immediate but recruiting a permanent employee takes longer- It may be cheaper to hire an IT contractor who can start immediately compared to training a full time employee up to the same level of competence - When the skills needed can only be found in the contract market - It is a cost effective way of bringing in new skills and imparting it on to existing employees
