Businesses can now bring in a consultancy to help them minimise their carbon footprint, as a 'green' advisory service is introduced today.
Computacenter's research reveals that switching a PC off overnight and at weekends can save up to £53 in electricity and is offering their consultancy service to offer advice on energy saving.
The service will assist companies with all aspects of IT equipment, from the initial acquisition and operation, to the re-use and eventual disposal.
Each company will be subject to an initial IT audit to monitor current energy efficiency and will be advised about the best ways to deal with and minimise electronic waste.
Computacentre offers a carbon neutral delivery service and aims to encourage positive action from employees.
Heidi-Lynn Mitchell, product services director at Computacenter, said: "Organisations are increasingly focused on their environmental profile and are beginning to recognise the reputation and cost advantages of a 'green' approach to their business operations."
IDC welcomed the development in the light of the WEEE directive which forces computer manufacturers to take financial responsibility for the recycling of their products.
