Business leaders are confused about the benefits unified communications (UC) pose to their company, research has found.
Forrester revealed that 55 per cent of firms questioned in their survey are "confused about the value" UC offers them.
Currently 57 per cent are evaluating whether to use the technology, with just 11 per cent having adopted it and 16 per cent rolling it out.
According to Ellen Daley, an analyst at Forrester, many firms are unsure as to what UC actually is.
"We were not surprised. A lot of people are talking about UC, a lot more are dipping their toe in; but at the same time they're all saying they're not sure about the value," she said.
UC is made up of IP telephony services such as managed VoIP, multimedia conferencing, collaboration and unified messaging.
Matthew Nickasch, a network management assistant at the University of Wisconsin, said companies are more likely to move towards UC services as prices fall and it becomes easier.
