The number of CCTV cameras in the UK is set to double, according to a poll of businesses.
Security professionals questioned by Mirasys estimated that the number of managed CCTV units in operation will double in the next ten years, reports SecurityPark.net.
The figure placed on this is 8.6 million, compared to the current number of 4.2 million cameras.
Many were pleased with current CCTV provision, with 84 per cent saying implementation of it had been successful and had achieved their main aim.
Jukka Riivari, chief executive officer of Mirasys, told the website: "These findings show that customers value the contribution of advanced surveillance systems to the welfare of their businesses, but above all, it suggests that they're looking for user-friendly, cost-effective products."
Professionals also reported wanting to make managed CCTV better, with improved picture quality and easier-to-use systems being top of their agenda.
It was recently reported that Managed CCTV is to get more sophisticated, as scientists have developed technology which can be adapted to hear crime, as well as see it.
