Chief information officers (CIOs) have begun to be recognised more in the leadership of companies, due to the increasingly important role of technology within firms.
A survey of 175 CIOs globally showed that 84 per cent of respondents think technology is transforming their industry, reports CIO.com.
The top IT bosses reported that their companies are only fairly effective at taking advantage of the transformation offered.
Some 80 per cent of the CIOs say they are now valued members of the senior leadership team, with 69 per cent saying they have involvement in decision making.
The top bosses also said their priorities for technology within the business were to improve external partnerships, develop IT talent and extend collaboration, said the website.
CIOs who posses the managerial qualities may be more employable in the future, as they have extra skills including political savvy, leadership, relationship management and resourcefulness.
It was recently reported that the amount CIOs are paid has increased over recent years, but their job satisfaction has decreased.
