Companies should not ignore training their staff on security and network management, as it may put their firm at risk.
Organisations are giving employees greater freedom on networks, but are not teaching them how to maintain system integrity, reports IT Pro.
A specialist UK information security firm said that research from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform showed that companies are losing a grip on secure network access.
The research also found that 54 per cent of companies allowed remote access to systems, leaving them more at risk, said the computing website.
Natasja Bolton, head of assurance services, said: "Responsibility rests with each organisation to implement their own security policy and ensure that they are fully protected.
She added that it was "commendable" that companies attempt to protect themselves, they still require users to take "basic precautions when accessing the network remotely".
Vodafone recently said that employees are increasingly putting themselves and their firm at risk by having conversations about work matters in public.
