Worthing Borough Council will reform its managed firewall infrastructure, it has been revealed.
According to the body, the move is a response to a sharp rise in the number of council services delivered via the web, publictechnology.net reports.
Mark Gawley, Information and Communication Technologies manager at the organisation said the council needs to simplify and centralise its IT provision in order to manage security more effectively and benefit from economies of scale.
He added: "Many of our staff are heavily reliant on Internet and email. So it's essential to have a resilient and secure environment to keep public services online and employees productive. Because we're handling people's personal and financial information, security is paramount."
Last month, the Channel website reported that unified threat management systems firm Fortinet challenged the claim made by Application developer Jupiter it has the fastest firewall in the UK.
According to the news provider, the firm said it feels "very comfortable" making the assertion.
