Almost half of all IT professional say they are running out of room at their datacentres, according to a new survey.
Some 46 per cent of respondents said they had run out of space, cooling capacity or power, reports Techworld.
The survey of 150 IT bosses also found that three-quarters of them would rate their ability to control energy consumption at a 'C' level, or worse.
Derek Kober, director at the BPM Forum, told the website: "It is a bit of double whammy, energy costs are rising rapidly, and data handling costs are also rising. We see that two thirds of companies do not have a plan in place to address their growing energy requirements."
He added that awareness about energy saving technologies "is not out there".
The survey also said that green technologies could help save money in the long-term, with more than 20 per cent of respondents thinking they could save $100,000 (£50,000).
It was recently reported that chief information officers think that datacentres will not be able to cope with the volume of information which companies will produce in the future.
