The European Union (EU) will not seek any further action against Microsoft, despite receiving a complaint about the company's business practices, according to sources.
A grievance was received from the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) and concerns the exchange of files between Office 2007 and competitor products.
It also regards the licensing practices of marketing software to schools and claims they are anticompetitive.
However, the Office of Fair Trading, which received the complaint, said it was already investigating the accusations and is "not treating it as a formal complaint to us".
Microsoft has recently said that it will continue to work with the BECTA and the European Commission to resolve these issues.
It added: "We believe that more and more schools are upgrading to Windows Vista and Office 2007 as they increasingly recognise the benefits of embracing technology to transform teaching and learning."
The company has recently lodged an appeal against the $1.3 billion (£680 million) fine issued from the EU for breach of an antitrust agreement.
