Small businesses can capitalise on the potential of the internet to promote themselves effectively and cheaply, one expert has claimed.
Robert Dirskovski, head of interactive media at the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), said that smaller firms with internet connectivity are well-placed to reach potential customers through email.
He remarked that "the entry costs to the market are so much lower" with internet marketing.
Additionally, he explained how businesses can use the flexibility of email marketing to "adapt the message according to the respondents".
"You'll know almost instantly whether or not the communication has been appropriately targeted," he added.
The DMA's Email Benchmarking Report for the first three months of 2007 reveals that the average number of email addresses which are held by email service providers "has risen sharply since Q3 2006".
It also highlighted how firms are using "new methods" to build up their email databases.
