Some 88 per cent of managed security professionals would take valuable and sensitive company information with them if they were laid off, a new study reveals.
Research carried out by IT security firm Cyber-Ark indicates just 12 per cent of those leaving their jobs would exit without taking information such as chief executive passwords, research and developments plans and financial reports.
Udi Mokady, president and chief executive of the firm, said most company directors are unaware of the passwords that give their employees access to sensitive information.
"These privileged identities, which lie on hundreds of servers and applications, very rarely get changed as it's often considered too much hassle," he added.
Mr Mokady went on to recommend routinely changing passwords and identities to reduce the chances of employees breaching security after they have been laid off.
Earlier this week, studies by internet security firm ScanSafe indicated more managed security attacks were blocked in July 2008 than in the whole of last year.
