A managed security threat using the name of FedEx to deceive internet users into downloading dangerous malware has been identified.
The spam wave has been recognised by IT security firm BitDefender, which claims the malware is engineered to steal sensitive e-banking data.
According to the company, an email message claims FedEx was not able to deliver a postal package sent one month ago and asks users to download and print an attached invoice containing a ZBot Trojan in order to retrieve the parcel.
Sorin Dudea, head of BitDefender anti-malware research, said: "ZBot and its family have an increased damage potential, as they are able to deactivate the firewall, steal sensitive financial data (such as credit card and account numbers, as well as login details), make screen shots and create logs of current working sessions."
Earlier this week, Atos Origin, the managed network security firm behind the IT infrastructure of the Beijing Olympic Games claimed the event's technology provision was carried out without a hitch.
