Over the past year, web content management systems (CMS) vendors have had mixed fortunes in implementing SharePoint integration, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by IT analyst CMS Watch found many vendors have installed updated connectors that enable web publishers to access documents in SharePoint's repository, although these vary in scope and functionality.
The firm commented that some connectors are bi-directional, while others are not, and not all can access SharePoint libraries as well as the programme's lists.
CMS Watch founder Tony Byrne said: "A prudent customer comes to the table with specific requirements and test plans."
Analyst at the company Jarrod Gingras explained that "although many customers avoid SharePoint for web CMS projects, they may still adopt it heavily for document collaboration", adding that they therefore have to understand how to integrate documents with web publishing systems.
Last month, VUNet.com reported that Microsoft hopes financial firms using its SharePoint programme will be tempted to move to its new high performance computing offerings.
