A new £44 million managed data centre in Hertfordshire has been opened by Fujitsu.
The company has opened the centre in Stevenage, which it claims will halve the energy used by a normal centre and is the first in Europe to be certified the Uptime Institute's international Tier III standard.
According to the firm, the managed data centre will be used by public and private organisations in both the UK and Europe, meaning they do not have to construct or extend their own facilities.
Martin Provoost, head of data centres at the company, said: "Fujitsu’s new data centre combines high resilience and high efficiency, which is difficult to achieve as these two factors often oppose each other."
The green features of the centre will mean it saves enough energy to power 2,000 households a year via efficient cooling towers and reusing heat emitted.
Fujitsu says the centre will also have a spray humidification system, which makes the traditional system of steam humidification redundant.
The company has also opened a £60 million campus in Stevenage which will house 1,000 existing staff.
