The shortage in skilled IT professionals will drive wages up this year according to a recent survey of IT salaries.
Research suggests that the active IT job market will create high demands for skilled IT professionals over the coming year, as earning potential for top level jobs increases.
Computer Economics' study suggests that the IT job market will be more fluid than at any other time in this decade with half of all companies increasing IT staff numbers by at least five per cent.
This will allow IT specialists increased leverage in their quest for better paid jobs, and Computer Economics expects to see more IT professionals changing jobs to net a better deal.
IT auditors are expected to have the largest salary increase, at 5.6 per cent, followed by telecommunications managers and IT security managers.
The report explains: "As one might expect, IT salary trends have closely mirrored IT staffing trends over the past several years, resulting in some rough times for many IT professionals."
"From 2002-2004, most organisations were only able to offer minimal wage increases (if any) for most of their IT staff members," it continues.
Senior managers and technicians will be in especially short supply, so companies will have to offer larger incentives to attract this essential skill and experience.
