Enhancements to broadband speeds and internet connectivity will help foster innovation for businesses in the future, it has been claimed.
A spokesperson for the Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA UK) said that many web technologies - such as streaming media, internet telephone and enhanced business applications - have been made possible by fast broadband.
"There are developments going on all the time to improve connectivity, and that has a consequence of driving technological innovation on the content and applications side," he remarked.
Some of the potential innovations for the coming year related to internet connectivity may include increased remote working incorporating video calls and further use of web meetings, he added.
A total of 21 million UK households are predicted to have an internet connection in place in 2010, according to uSwitch.
Of that number, just one million are likely to be dial-up connections, the organisation stated.
