Noted Indian outsourcing company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) chose the shores of a new country to set up their latest call centre- and the UK couldn't be happier to have them.
Around 700 people work in the TCS-subsidiary Diligenta call centre in Peterborough, specialising in total outsourcing in life and pensions sectors.
The company took over the operation from closed fund group Pearl- retaining all 1,044 existing staff for the outsourcing operation.
David Power, chief executive of Diligenta, told the Guardian that TCS would have been viewed as an offshore lot a year ago, but now wants to be mentioned in the same breath as IBM and Accenture for global innovation.
"IT doesn't really matter where these players started from, they all have to deploy globally, to then end up in the same place."
"Some people are seeing that big Indian companies are not just playing the labour arbitrage game."
The Peterborough centre was the first step in a calculated Diligenta plan to be the UK leader in three years.
