Trade association Intellect has this week welcomed the government's acknowledgement of the role technology has to play in the creative industries in a new strategy document.
The "Creative Economy Strategy" is a five-year programme, led by UK Trade and Investment, designed to boost the UK's international competitiveness in these sectors.
"Technology is not just a part of the creative economy - it also drives growth and innovation. In the converging world technology acts as an enabler, allowing the UK creative economy to compete on a global basis," said Laurence Harrison, director of consumer electronics at Intellect.
In particular, Intellect is keen to promote the government's plans for a review of barriers to the development of next-generation broadband services in the UK.
Intellect's Broadband Stakeholder Group will contribute to the review, having previously produced a number of reports and recommendations on the matter most recently, its "Pipe Dreams" review.
One principal barrier to the development of higher speed broadband networks in the UK is the ouatdated copper wire telephone infrastructure, many commentators have noted.
Other countries that achieve higher connection speeds have more modern fibre-optic networks.
