London has maintained its position as Wi-Fi capital of the world with usage increasing by 156 per cent in 2007.
The capital city was rated top in iPass' Wi-Fi Hotspot Index followed by Singapore and Tokyo.
Figures based on the second half of 2007 showed that business use of the wireless hotspots almost doubled with 3G technology also boosting the figures.
Europe's use of wireless technology surpasses that of the US, with Europe's market growing by 142 per cent and the US's by 61 per cent.
However, due to previous growth in the market the US still remains the most popular region for Wi-Fi usage.
Almost half of Wi-Fi connections were in airport, with Heathrow ranking as the fourth most popular airport in the world for usage.
Recently a UK company, The Cloud, increased its hotspot wireless coverage by buying the German hotspot aggregator GlobalAirNet AG.
The Cloud now provides to six countries in Europe, with more than 25,000 hotspots across the region.
