Investing in managed VoIP services is a key way for businesses to cut costs and boost efficiency, it has been suggested.
Vincent Potier, the director of managed IP services supplier Vonage, acknowledged that saving money on phone bills may not be a top priority for some firm owners, while other businesses hold back from switching to alternative technology because of "suspicion and personal uncertainty".
"People don't like to move away from their comfort zone very often," remarked Mr Potier.
"Therefore, there are a lot of small businesses who have a fantastic opportunity to save costs but still don't take that chance because they are afraid it won't work."
Mr Potier went on to claim that individuals' drive to stay with familiar services "is actually what reinforces the poor quality that the normal telecom companies deliver".
Describing the customers who frequently opt for managed VoIP services or other managed IP services, he concluded: "Usually it's people who are more entrepreneurial, because they are more ready to take a leap of faith, and people who are not scared of technology."
According to research published by T-Mobile in April, 42 per cent of small to medium business owners believe they pay too much for their mobile communications plan.
