Managed remote workers are more likely to work longer hours than office-based staff, according to research.
Home-workers work on average 45 hours per week, with the office-based average being 39 hours, reports the Times.
Best Companies, which conducted the research, said staff engagement for managed remote workers is also higher, even for those who only spend ten per cent of their time at home.
The practice of remote and flexible working increased engagement for all members of staff, but more so for team members, reports the newspaper.
Research found 77.5 per cent of team members who work in the office feel engaged, increasing by 5.5 per cent for managed remote workers.
Dr Pete Brandon, head of research at Best Companies, said it is partly due to that fact employees feel their manager trusts them, but also due to saving money on transport costs.
Regus, a flexible working provider, found managed remote workers can operate in a number of places, including car parks, shopping centres and public bathrooms.
