Managed security services are as important as readiness and reliability when businesses choose a company to host their website, it has been claimed.
According to Guy Bunker, chief scientist at IT security firm Symantec, shopping sites in particular contain sensitive customer details which need to be protected at all times.
"Uptime is very important, but so is their disaster recovery plan. You need to know if the solution offered can swap over to a second location in the case of a server or network failure," he added.
Mr Bunker went on to say while availability and uptime are key concerns for businesses with an online presence; security is no longer a secondary issue.
Earlier this week, research carried out by IT security firm the Wick Hill Group indicated the managed security focus of UK businesses remains on external threats, despite the greater likelihood of companies falling prey to an internal breach.
