More managed security attacks were blocked in July 2008 than in the whole of last year, according to a new study.
Research carried out by internet security firm ScanSafe found web-based malware blocks increased 87 per cent in July compared to the previous month and by 34 per cent compared to all of 2007.
Mary Landesman, senior security researcher at the company, said: "In June 2008 we reported a 278 per cent increase for the first six months of the year. That alarming trend has continued with the number of Web-based malware blocks exploding in the first two weeks of July."
She added that cyber criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated in creating online scams, adding it is disconcerting that more and more people are falling prey to them.
Last week, Guy Bunker, chief scientist at IT security firm Symantec claimed managed security services are as important as readiness and reliability when businesses choose a support company to host their website.
