Managed security is set to improve, as five major companies create a new initiative to react more rapidly to threats.
The firms have created the Industry Consortium for Advancement of Security on the Internet (Icasi), which aims to look at how the firms can jointly tackle security issues.
Included in this new union are Cisco, Intel, IBM, Microsoft and Juniper Networks, which comprise the not-for-profit organisation.
A statement from the group said: "Icasi will allow IT vendors to work together to address multi-vendor security threats."
It added that common security threats have evolved to more sophisticated attacks, which affect multiple products.
A similar initiative was created last month, when the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Terrorism was formed.
The group is funded by private businesses and government in Malaysia, in an attempt to offer training, resources and an emergency response to attacks, reports ComputerWorld UK.
A recent survey revealed IT managers are most concerned about security, citing it as the biggest issue within their firm.
