Companies that do not make use of managed services could suffer as a result of the credit crunch, it has been claimed.
According to ciol.com, working with specialist managed services providers can enable small and medium enterprises to compete effectively in the volatile economic climate.
Dominic Monkhouse, managing director of IT Lab, said many firms may decide to hold off on upgrading or renewing part or all of their IT systems as a result of the credit crunch, but this would be a mistake.
"The answer is to move to a managed IT service hosted by an expert provider. So, instead of owning and maintaining hardware and software in your office, you now have access to the very best technology, security and back up," he added.
Earlier this week, research carried out by carried out by IT industry analyst IDC indicated $27 billion (£15.5 billion) was earned in managed services revenue by the top ten global application IT outsourcing providers during 2007.
