The managed wide area networks intrusion prevention system (IPS) market is set to top $168 million (£93 million) in 2008, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by IT analyst Gartner indicates the sector will see a 41 per cent increase from 2007 revenue of $119 million.
The group claims wireless local area networks remain a potentially significant vulnerability for organisations, with a number of security incidents reported this year.
John Pescatore, vice president and distinguished analyst at the firm, said: "As the business-crucial use of WLANs and other wireless technologies continues to increase, the need for wireless security monitoring will grow as well."
He added that initial sales of WLAN IPS products have penetrated the Global 5000 companies and government agencies, who are traditionally early adopters of wireless technologies.
Earlier this week, broadband.co.uk claimed the planned provision of broadband managed wide area networking could cost the government as much as £28 billion.
