Virtualisation is proving to be the major networking challenge, according to a poll of IT managers.
Over 50 per cent of the people questioned said they had deployed some form of virtualisation technology, with the topic being a hot one at the Interop conference this year.
An additional 80 per cent said they planned on introducing the technology into their business in the next 12 months.
However, despite the rush of adoption, managers are reporting that the technology creates the most challenging monitoring skills, according to a survey by NatQoS and Network Instruments.
Charles Thompson, manager of systems engineering at Network Instruments, said: "Many of the people we're speaking with today are talking about network-wide rollouts of new applications like VoIP and unified communications."
"Many IT staff find it challenging to assess how these applications will impact the performance of other business-critical applications."
