Microsoft has postponed the release of its third service pack (SP3) for Windows XP, in an unexpected move.
The company said last week the update would be released on April 29th, but this has since been delayed due to compatibility issues.
Chris Keroack, XP SP3's release manager, said: "In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and both Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)."
He added that they have decided to delay the release of the product in order to give customers "the best possible experience".
Microsoft has not yet given a new date for when the pack will be released on Windows Update.
The code for the pack was finalised last week.
Microsoft is currently planning on stopping the production of the XP operating system on June 30th, despite calls from users to keep the system.
An analyst said yesterday that a transfer for businesses to the Vista system was inevitable, once XP production has been halted. |
