Microsoft has delayed the release of the first Vista service pack (SP1) by at least six weeks, according to a source.
The computing company is "excited" to have released the update to manufacturing meaning the code is complete and is due to be duplicated and released.
However, a web blog by Mike Nash, the vice president of Windows product management, said the update won't be released to users until mid-March at the earliest.
Mr Nash said that the service pack will support all languages and is an expansive 550MB, which will run as a stand alone installer.
When released the update will be available via Microsoft Update and will be downloadable from the website.
Microsoft told IDG yesterday that the first computers with Vista SP1 preinstalled are likely to be released in early April, said the computing website.
The computer giant said that the update would ensure faster file movement, as some users have reported "unnecessarily long copy operations".
