Microsoft has expanded its presence in the virtualisation world by buying software developer Kidaro.
The company produces virtualisation management software and it is thought it will be incorporated into Microsoft's Desktop Optimisation Pack for Software Assurance.
A figure for the acquisition has not been announced, but Israeli publication Globes has said it is $100 million.
Kidaro's software is used to make it easier for companies to deploy and manage virtual PCs and includes features like encryption and firewall security.
Microsoft is hoping that the move will make the process of switching to Vista a smoother one, as the software can reduce compatibility issues between applications and Vista.
Some older applications running on Windows XP have problems with compatibility with Vista, which can be solved by creating a virtual machine setup.
Earlier this year Microsoft bought Calista Technologies, another virtualisation firm.
The firm develops graphics to enable users to access the Windows desktop from a remote server.
