Microsoft hopes financial firms using its SharePoint programme will be tempted to move to its new high performance computing (HPC) offerings.
According to VUNet.com, the company is entering the market with its HPC Server 2008 product.
Microsoft hopes those firms which already use software such as SharePoint and Excel will be tempted to move to the new system for compatibility reasons.
Roy Illsley, an analyst at the Butler Group, tells the website he feels the company will have to go a long way to crack into the market.
"Microsoft has made some progress, but I do not think that it will shift many Linux users from what they currently use," he states.
The company is "in this market for the long haul" and so will gradually work on improving its market share, Mr Illsley adds.
AccountingWeb.co.uk reveals the computer company has recently released online tutorials for the SharePoint programme for the Server 2007 version of the software. |
