Microsoft urges security innovation

News Article - Monday, October 30, 2006 12:24
Filed under: IT Security & Business Continuity
Software giant Microsoft has called on the IT community to make a concerted effort to tackle the continuing threat of cybercrime.

The firm is urging the security sector to make significant efforts to keep up with the continually evolving security dangers. Microsoft is urging firms to get one step ahead of hackers, instead of only reacting to security breaches once they have occurred.

Speaking at the RSA Conference Europe 2006 in France, Ben Fathi, vice president of Microsoft's security technology unit, pointed to the forthcoming release of the company's Vista operating system, which has been billed as the most security-conscious package yet from the software firm.

"To help protect customers and ensure the long-term success of the computing ecosystem, the industry must embrace change and innovation," he commented.

Microsoft has been heavily criticised in the past for its approach to security, but it is hoping to combat such accusations with its Vista package.

Improvements in the operating system's security infrastructure would come as a welcome relief to businesses, particularly as the new technologies such as wireless are increasingly threatened by security breaches.
