Migration is key to the economic stability of the IT sector and will add £16.2 billion to the industry by 2012, according to new research.
A new report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research said that skilled migration into the IT and telecoms industry was essential.
Albert Ellis, chief executive of Harvey Nash, said: "Far from undermining the UK labour market, migration is vital to future economic stability, helping to fill in the gaps created by older and under-skilled workforces."
"IT skills are critical to the UK economy, but critically lacking in our current workforce," Mr Ellis added.
Driven by a demand for eCommerce software development the number of skilled migrant workers into the industries will increase to 160,000 by 2012, an increase of 19,000.
In total migrant workers will contribute £77 billion to the UK economy in the next four years.
Almost half of the total migrants workers, 45 per cent, live in London, according to IT Pro.
