The user bases for mobile VoIP, IP PBX and mobile/fixed convergence are set to grow by 135 per cent over the next two years, according to new research.
A study conducted by research firm Rhetorik discovered that while there is a relatively low penetration of fixed/mobile convergence and mobile VoIP and a small installed base for IP PBX technology worldwide, these areas are set to grow.
Around two-fifths of the enterprises polled for the study said that they had plans to converge fixed office lines and mobile devices and to deploy mobile VoIP.
Nearly 14 per cent of respondents said that they were planning on taking up IP PBX, though since the user base is small - only ten per cent of businesses - this does not translate into large numbers.
The study also revealed that improving business efficiency, cutting costs and improving customer service were the main reasons for the planned adoption of new convergence technologies.
However, enterprises are concerned by security issues, associated costs of upgrading business applications and how to handle the management and support of the converged network devices.
