A new product has been launched which means businesses will not have to back-up so much data.
The storage appliance from de-duplication specialist Data Domain eliminates redundancy and reduces the amount of content that needs to be backed-up or replicated.
It's DD120 model is boasted to be "the industry's smallest full-function de-duplication storage system" and offers a cost effective data protection facility.
Data Domain's latest product can be managed remotely and is designed to replicate data at remote locations and back it up to a datacentre hub.
Brian Biles, vice president of product management at Data Domain, said: "The DD120 offers a low cost way to simply and automatically backup and recover locally as well as replicate remotely, for less than was possible before."
He went on to say that the days of businesses having to hire an administrator to replace tapes and get them on the truck on time were over, as the storage and transport is automated.
Data Domain aims to identify redundant files and data as they are being stored to reduce the amount of backed-up information.
