Next year will see a major increase in outsourcing, it has been predicted.
Unisys vice president of strategic programmes Joe Hogan predicted a combination of factors would lead to growth in the practice, including a desire for more accessibility of service, increased workforce mobility and environmental concerns, reports vnunet.com.
He said: "A profound transformation in how people work and do business is driving a new set of service requirements and imperatives," adding that meeting such demand would be the "main challenge" for providers of outsourcing services.
Other predictions made by Mr Hogan include the modernisation of legacy application and the development of next-generation applications which will provide rapid access to information for customer-facing staff.
In related outsourcing news, research by public services think-tank the European Strategy Services Unit has criticised the UK public sector for what it stated is a £9 billion overrun on outsourcing projects.
The organisation said there had been a number of overruns, delays and terminations, channelregister.co.uk reports.
