New research has indicated that the global market for outsourcing is likely to increase significantly next year.
A study by Gartner predicted that the outsourcing sector would grow by eight per cent over the course of this year, Computing reports.
The firm noted that although the value of publicly-disclosed IT outsourcing contracts appeared to fall last year, this may have been because fewer contracts are being reported.
Kurt Potter, research director at Gartner, said that for many companies, their IT sourcing strategies and governance structures remain "immature, lacking altogether or misaligned with enterprise objectives".
"Because these organisations lack the basic building blocks for successful vendor management and outsourcing success, expected cost savings and other benefits are difficult to obtain," he explained.
Last month, Joe Hogan, vice president of strategic programmes at Unisys, said that a "profound transformation" in the way people work is creating new "service requirements and imperatives".
This could be the "main challenge" of companies offering outsourcing services, he added.
