A significant number of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK would consider switching to a single mobile operator to meet their communications requirements, according to a new study.
Research conducted by University College Dublin Michael Smurfit School of Business on behalf of Accuris Networks, revealed that nine in ten SMEs in the UK and Ireland would make the move.
John Barron, vice-president of Accuris Networks, said that the research is "timely" given that many mobile operators are choosing to offer bundled broadband to business customers.
The research aimed to discover whether SMEs would be willing to "embrace" the concept of having a mobile operator as their "sole supplier of all their communication requirements", he explained.
According to the company, the study discovered that most SMEs are aware of the potential benefits offered by mobile technology, with many likely to consider utilising new technologies in order to cut costs.
"This is a positive finding from a dual GSM/WiFi service perspective as it shows that the SME market is open to adopting the service as it delivers benefits such as improved productivity, enables mobile working and reduces communication costs," it stated.
In related news, Kip Meek, chairman of the Broadband Stakeholder Group, recently welcomed the government's announcement that a new independent review of high-speed broadband will be undertaken.
