Smartphones are perceived to be more of a risk to firms than laptops or storage devices, according to a new survey.
It found that 94 per cent of IT security professionals thought they presented the greatest risk to security, compared to 88 per cent who thought mobile storage devices did and 79 per cent who found laptops to be the biggest threat.
The survey, by Credant Technologies, also found that some IT professionals were not vigilant about security, with 56 per cent saying they do not use a password on their mobile or smartphone.
An additional 91 per cent of smartphones were allowed access to the company network without extra security measures.
The security risk presented by laptops is also not being restricted, with 60 per cent of firms not encrypting information, protecting it in the case of a loss or theft of the machine.
A separate survey from Airwide Solution last week found the increased use of smartphones has led to higher security threats as handset theft grows.
