New software has enabled a police force to more accurately search images on their managed CCTV.
According to ComputerWeekly, the time it takes to search the images has reduced by 90 per cent after adopting software from Scyron.
Detective sergeant at West Midlands Police, Andrew Townsend, told the website: "We needed a system to manage the process and keep track of our progress so we could know what had been viewed, how much more had to be done, and what was to be used as evidence in court."
The software held the force to view, analyse, prepare and present the images from managed CCTV cameras.
In particular, the police force said the technology helped them while in the Birmingham race riots in 2005, with Una Cooke, head of the major investigations unit at the force, saying it aided 11 convictions.
According to security professionals questioned by Mirasys, the number of managed CCTV cameras being used will double in the next ten years.
