Businesses which utilise storage virtualisation packages are increasingly doing the same for servers, it has been reported.
Arun Taneja of the Taneja group told Tech Target that the introduction of one usually prompts the other, saying: "People implement VMware and they say all of a sudden, "this thing sucks, storage suddenly became a big bottleneck."
Mr Taneja said having virtualised servers meant there was a greater need for networked storage for efficiency reasons.
In addition, he said the area of virtualisation is being "turned upside-down" by VMware, noting that: "VMware is doing things that storage used to do."
As the industry moved on, Microsoft has just announced its latest virtualisation package.
It has announced the launch of its new Hyper-V system, which enables multiple operating systems to run on a host computer.
The new technology is designed to become an integral part of the Windows 2008 package when it is introduced next year.
