Symantec has promised high-speed security offerings in its new beta versions of the products.
The firm says its new versions of Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009 will have much faster performance.
Research has recently shown customers are not satisfied with the speed and performance on the managed security product, with the firm saying this is the main reason why people switch providers.
Jody Gibney, senior product manager at the firm, said: "It wasn't enough to be a great-performing security product. We had to be a great-performing product, period."
She added that the way people use their PCs is changing and this had affected the changes to the product.
The company said a new technology, called Norton Insight, will reduce the amount of time taken to scan files by around 65 per cent.
Symantec has recently come under fire for choosing to sell directly to its larger customers.
