Telecom services are entering a new generation driven by convergence in managed storage area networks, devices and media, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by IT industry analyst Frost and Sullivan indicates telecom providers are increasingly able to deliver enhanced applications and new services such as IPTV, interactivity and fixed-mobile convergence by using next-generation networks (NGNs) with a completely new architecture.
Jayesh Easwaramony, director of information and communication technology consulting at the firm, said there is a no one-size-fits-all strategy when it comes to transformation initiatives.
"Although a NGN rollout for cost savings and service agility is the step in the right direction for all incumbent and integrated telcos, there are still multiple issues that telcos face like the business case for new services," he added.
Last week, Computer Weekly reported managed IT support providers are set to be hit by a downturn in business in 2009 as a result of the credit crunch.
