Thousands more UK websites are under attack from sophisticated Trojans than was first thought, according to security experts.
It was thought that around 230 websites had been affected, but experts have today said the number is more like 10,000, reports ComputerWorld.
The attack was described as "extremely sophisticated" by Mary Landesman, a researcher at ScanSafe, as it re-attacks computers after they have been cleaned up.
Don Jackson, a senior researcher at SecureWorks, told the website that he cannot prove how the infection is occurring but thinks it may be linked to log-on details due to this re-attacking.
The affected websites have been infected with a pair of constantly changing JavaScript files, which when visitors go to the website attack faults on their computer.
If their PC is un-patched against nine of the areas the malware can target they become contaminated with a backdoor Trojan, which Mr Jackson described as "a very nasty piece of software", according to the news provider.
Mr Jackson said the unknown nature of the "dynamic module loading" makes it hard for site administrators the clean their website.
Yesterday Ms Landesman advised that businesses warn all users of the threat and the only way to avoid it was to disable JavaScript.
