The next-generation of managed security innovation will be led by developments in virtualisation technology, it has been claimed.
Nand Mulchandani , security strategist at IT services provider VMWare, told Computer Weekly that the new range on managed security products could be vastly different from those that have been used in the past.
He added: "Machines could be security-scanned and patched offline to avoid any disruption to work and the next time the user logs in a fresh system will be loaded that has been fully updated."
Mr Mulchandani went on to say the IT security industry will become "more interesting" as managed security suppliers increasingly become aware of what is possible through virtualisation.
Earlier this week, IT industry education and training body the Institute of Risk Management claimed companies must put in place processes to prevent data misuse in order to reduce their managed security risk to information storage.
Ian Fraser, marketing manager at the body, said security risks need to be identified first and then managed.
