The first Vista service pack (SP1) is due to be released by Microsoft tomorrow, according to one website.
Amazon.com has predicted that the update will be released to consumers this Wednesday, after correctly predicting the release to manufacturers date last month.
The website's predictions have been reinforced by a Malaysian site, Techarp, which has made the same forecast.
A spokeswoman for Microsoft only repreated a previous statement which said: "In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update and the download centre on microsoft.com.
"Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install SP1. Any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not upgrade successfully will not be offered SP1."
Vista's SP1 was shipped to manufacturers in February but at the same time its general release to consumers was delayed by six weeks.
Since then the update has been plagued with misfortune, first with pirate copies appearing on various download sites.
In addition two prerequisites for the upload caused a fault in systems leading them to constantly reboot and causing Microsoft to pull them from download.
Most recently a fault led to some users receiving the update early through Windows Update.
