It is "inevitable" that businesses will adopt Vista as an operating system, as it is "the only viable choice", according to one analyst.
Ben Gray, a research analyst at Forrester has said that with Microsoft retiring Windows XP and no confirmation of a next generation version, Vista will be the only option for companies, reports ComputerWorld.
Current talk about the release of Windows 7 is unsubstantiated, according to Mr Gray, who described businesses are being "caught between a rock and a hard place".
He said sticking with the XP system will be very hard once it has been taken off the shelves at the end of June this year.
"We're not here to sell Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7, but Vista looks like an inevitability," Mr Gray told the website.
He suggested that companies trial Mac OSX or Linux in small batches if they want an alternative option.
Microsoft recently revealed that only 6.3 per cent of businesses are currently using the Vista system.
