VoIP and mobile and wireless technologies are top spending priorities for CIOs moving into 2007, a new poll reveals.
Almost two-thirds (63 per cent) of 18 CIOs questioned by silicon.com said that they would be investing in mobile and wireless technology this year, while 42 per cent planned to spend on IP telephony.
Other areas earmarked for spending included last year's top priorities IT governance (52 per cent) and IT compliance (42 per cent), as well as IT infrastructure library (47 per cent), storage and data centre solutions (37 per cent) and web services (31 per cent).
CIOs were also looking at a number of new areas for investment, with convergence and IT support services for more flexible home and remote working emerging as important priorities.
IT security experienced a fall down the list of priorities to a quarter of respondents who are planning to spend on it, while Microsoft Vista was voted the most-hyped technology over the next 12 months.
"In 2007, the hype will mainly be around new MS products - Vista in particular - and when should you upgrade. The first people may take steps to implement and no doubt we'll hear how this goes," said respondent Les Boggia, head of IT at insurance firm Carole Nash.
