Vodafone in Indian outsourcing deal

Telecommunications firm Vodafone has announced it has agreed a major outsourcing deal under which its IT functions will be undertaken by IBM.
The deal will see IBM take on the role on behalf of the telcom's Indian operation as it seeks to expands its operations in the second most populous country in the world.
IBM will manage all software and hardware functions for Vodafone Essar except its network service platforms.
Vodafone stated that: "The agreement is expected to lead to the faster roll out of more varied services to customers, while delivering greater cost efficiencies to Vodafone Essar."
The company already has an outsourcing deal for managed services with IBM covering its operations in several European countries.
Steve Foster, business strategy manager at Northgate HR, told Personnel Today that cost, risk and service could all be improved upon through the economies of scale that outsourcing brings.
