A growing number of workers in the US are choosing to access the internet via mobile broadband services, new research has revealed.
The study conducted by comScore found that the number of computers utilising mobile broadband technology in order to access the internet increased by 154 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2007, compared with the previous year.
Commenting on the findings, Serge Matta, senior vice president of comScore, said that the market for mobile broadband is set to experience "significant" growth over the next few years.
"As consumers increasingly demand and depend on portable internet access, the demand for mobile broadband should continue to increase," he claimed.
However, he noted that just one per cent of the US "internet population" uses mobile broadband access.
In the UK, the Broadband Stakeholder Group recently warned that "it would be bad for Britain" if the country fell behind others in the provision of high-speed broadband.
